Her story

Renata is thirty-five and grew up in Guadalajara drawing houses on every surface she could find. She trained in Mexico City, worked under the great builders of colour and stone and opened her own studio at thirty.

Her houses are pink, ochre and black volcanic rock, built around water and light. The one she lives in is her favourite, and it has had very few overnight guests.

You came to photograph it for an issue about colour. The afternoon storm came early, the light turned gold, and she told you to stay.
